The problem with the original Dipperfox 850 stump crusher was that it could not be used in a private garden situation. However, the Dipperfox 400 changes that. The 400 stump crusher can be fitted to a mini excavator with a power requirement of 1.5 to 5 tons. All kinds of loaders, from Bobcat skid steer loaders to Avant articulated loaders. The 400 stump grinder can also be used with utility loaders like the Toro Dingo which is available in skid steer and on tracks.

Performance

If you take a look at the video, you will see that the Dipperfox grinding time is three times quicker than a traditional stump grinder. I must admit that this is quite impressive and is definitely something to think about when purchasing a stump grinder. However, if the Dipperfox stump grinder was fitted to a utility loader, for example, something like a Toro Dingo. The whole unit would be considerably more compact and easier for getting into tight places.

Compactness

For someone who regularly grinds tree stumps in domestic gardens, I need something that is compact, especially for the UK market, where access to gardens can be very limited. I personally use a small Predator 38RX tree stump grinder which I find goes through the majority of garden gates. However, the machine does narrow down to 66 cm (26 inches). I believe it’s the narrowest machine on the market.

Advantages

One of the things that I really like about the Dipperfox SC400 is the fact that it operates at low speeds and has a completely different cutting action to a traditional stump grinder. 85% % of the time I have two years debris guards to protect the surrounding area. Chippings and stones when you are using a traditional stump grinder. So it’s important to protect people’s property, especially when there is glass and paintwork around.

With the Dipperfox stump grinder, there is no need for any debris guards as there is no high-speed rotating cutting wheel. It may sound like a simple requirement to use debris guards. But is time-consuming and difficult when it’s windy to keep the guards upright.

The other advantage is the fact that the power unit can be used for other tasks, especially something like a mini digger. At the same time, my present tree stump grinder can only be used to grind tree stumps.

To Conclude

I believe that the Dipperfox SC400 stump grinder is definitely worth looking at, especially if you have an alternative power unit. I may well potentially look at adding a Dipperfox stump grinder to run alongside the existing stump grinder. A mini digger is a very useful and handy tool to have around for clearing up after a tree stump has been ground, especially if it’s a large tree stump. I’m all for having one power unit with multiple attachments.
