Today we are looking at the Feider FBE-8T100 8-Ton Electric Log-Splitter, this is one of our most popular log splitters. This log splitter is on special offer at £549.95. Over the past few days, we have been looking at the BCS range of rotavators, so, it’s now time to look at something different today.
It never fails to amaze me how much time having the right tool for the job can save you huge amounts of time and energy. Over the years I’ve seen so many people struggling in their garden due to using the wrong tools and equipment. Gardening and landscaping can be made so much easier if we make the right decisions when purchasing.
The Feider FBE-8T100 8-Ton Electric Log-Splitter is one of those tools that’s definitely a timesaver and much quicker than the traditional axe. We do have a range of various log splitters for domestic and commercial use. Today we are looking at a powerful eight-ton domestic lock splitter.
Feider FBE-8T100 8-Ton Electric Log-Splitter
Features
A top of the range log split at a value for money price.
Suitable for UK market.
A real time saver if you are using a log burner.
Electric motor- almost silent power.
No servicing of motor.
Transport wheels for ease of movement.
Comes complete with a generous length of cable.
The Feider brand appears to be becoming very popular as they offer value for money on their time-saving equipment. This electric eight-ton log splitter is a fine example of what Feider does well!
Electric motor
The Feider FBE-8T100 8-Ton Electric Log-Splitter is powered by a 3000 W electric motor, which is about the equivalent of a 4 hp petrol engine. For your interest, 746 W is equal to one horsepower! Although I am someone who always prefers a machine with an internal combustion engine, however, electric power does bring quiet power and zero engine services!
With a 3000 W electric motor the log splitter powers a hydraulic pump that then powers the hydraulic ram. The hydraulic ram produces eight tons of pressure; that’s enough to power through those knotty logs that are traditionally difficult to slice through with an axe.
Transport wheels
As you can see the Feider FBE-8T100 8-Ton Electric Log-Splitter is a well-built machine. However, with the 200 mm transport wheels it makes it very easy to move around. The great thing is you can take the log splitter to the work, providing your electric cable is long enough.
High-capacity log splitter
This high-capacity log splitter will accept logs up to 40 cm in diameter and 106 cm in length. This is large enough for the average homeowner.
To conclude
As I mentioned earlier, Feider seems to be making quite a name for itself with their budget-priced and well-made products. I do normally prefer a machine with a petrol or diesel engine on. However, in this case, the Feider 8-Ton Electric Log-Splitter offers quiet power. With the almost silent running electric motor and the quiet hydraulics you can still hear yourself speak.
The Feider FRT-75BS125 Ride-On Lawnmower offers a cheap solution for customers wanting a small compact machine for their garden. This Feider ride-on lawnmower comes with a Briggs & Stratton engine and a two-year standard warranty and a five-year warranty with terms and conditions. I’m guessing with the five-year warranty you would very much have to stick to Feiders terms and conditions.
Let’s find out more about the Feider ride on mower.
Features
A compact and manoeuvrable machine.
Excellent value for money.
Electric start commercial Briggs & Stratton engine.
Three modes of cutting.
Large capacity grass collector.
Grass collector – empty from the operator’s seat.
Five forward gears one reverse gear.
Two-year warranty.
Optional five-year warranty.
Feider FRT-75BS125 Ride-On Lawnmower
If your lawn is becoming too much to cut with your conventional walk-behind Lawnmower then the Feider FRT-75BS125 Ride-On Lawnmower is here to solve your problem. This is a budget machine that offers great capabilities for the price. There are many times when I recommend people purchase a good quality walk-behind machine. However, potentially the Feider mower can make your walk behind mower redundant!
Just be aware that there are occasions when a walk-behind mower can be more practical if you have obstacles or you require a nice striped finish to your lawn. However, this Feider ride-on lawnmower could potentially save you many hour’s time over the course of a year.
Engine
One of the benefits of the Feider FRT-75BS125 Ride-On Lawnmower is that it has a powerful 12.5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine. I think most people have heard of the famous Briggs & Stratton brand of engines. They are a very popular engine and a very good workhorse, parts are cheap and are readily available.
I have owned many pieces of machinery and equipment that are powered by Briggs & Stratton, over the years I have had minimal issues with Briggs & Stratton engines.
The 12.5 hp Briggs & Stratton 3125 series engine is a premium 340 cc four-stroke engine, with overhead valve technology. Briggs & Stratton have put a great deal of effort into making this a low emission economical petrol engine.
A float feed type carburettor provides excellent performance and ensures good starting reliability. The cast-iron cylinder liner helps to give this engine a longer life. For your interest, I have a machine that is over 35 years old and still has the original Briggs & Stratton engine with a cast-iron liner! It still works fine and is used regularly.
The engine also comes with a cartridge-type air filter that ensures clean air. Just make sure you check your air filter regularly to keep your engine running smoothly and efficiently. Unfortunately, far too often I see engines that are poorly maintained due to simple maintenance checks. If you look after your engine it will look after your wallet!
Cutting deck
With a 75 cm cutting deck, the mower quickly mows your lawn. However, it is also small enough to get through most garden gates, a very useful option when access is limited.
The Feider ride on mower has three different types of mind modes. They start with collection, the machine comes with a 170 L rear collector that can be operated from the driver’s seat.
The second cutting mode is to mulch the grass. This is a great option for summer when the ground is dry as it helps to keep the grass green in dry weather. It also saves you time when you empty the grass collector.
The third mode is to leave the grass on the lawn through the rear discharge chute. This can be sometimes useful if the lawn has become slightly overgrown. The grass can be cut and then collected by the machine a few hours later once it has wilted.
Gearbox
With the six-speed gearbox, the Feider mower can efficiently work in various conditions. It offers five forward speeds and one reverse speed. As I mentioned in previous blog posts many machines are now fitted with hydrostatic transmission which greatly speeds up the cutting process. Unfortunately, Feider does not offer this option yet, but maybe it will come at a later date.
If you are looking for a machine with hydrostatic drive a good option may be the Mountfield 827H Compact Lawn Rider. Once again, this machine offers good value for money.
To conclude
The Feider FRT-75BS125 Ride-On Lawnmower offers very good value for money and with the generous two-year warranty plus, you can have peace of mind. The only downfall with this machine is the lack of hydrostatic transmission, I hope this will be a feature that comes soon.
Today we are looking at the Feider FRT-7550M Ride-On Lawnmower, this is a budget ride on mower that offers excellent value for money. The machine presently sells for £1299 which is presently a saving of £200 on the normal price. Yesterday we looked at the Feider FRE7050 Battery-Powered Electric Ride-On Mower. The two machines are very similar apart one is petrol and one is battery powered. There are for and against arguments for both machines.
Over the last few years battery machines have become very popular due to the, allegedly, environmental benefits they offer. One thing is for sure, battery power is good for quiet operation, however, there can still be considerable blade noise from a rotary mower. For me, I still prefer something with an internal combustion engine on. So today we will look at the Feider FRT-7550M Ride-On Lawnmower.
Feider FRT-7550M Ride-On Lawnmower
Features
A compact and very manoeuvrable ride-on mower.
Powerful 4 stroke 15 hp engine.
Probably the most powerful budget mower on the market.
Three cutting choices, bagging, mulching and rear discharge.
Six-speed gearbox.
Five cutting heights.
Large fuel tank.
Easy emptying of grass collector from the driver’s seat.
The first thing that I notice about the Feider FRT-7550M Ride-On Lawnmower is that it offers great value for money. Some ride-on mowers have the tendency to be rather cumbersome, however, the Feider offers compactness with great manoeuvrability.
I will often advise customers to go for a good quality, walk behind, rear roller, rotary mower if the garden isn’t huge. But having said this the Feider FRT-7550M Ride-On Lawnmower really does offer value for money. The Feider is a similar price to a quality roller rotary lawnmower. It may not give you quite the same finish, but you won’t have to walk which is a benefit to some people.
Engine
I believe this is one of the most powerful ride-on mowers in its class. The Feider FRT-7550M Ride-On Lawnmower is powered by a high-capacity 432cc Feider 4/air cooled engine. The engine develops a very decent 15 hp thanks to the overhead valve technology which brings fuel-efficient quiet operation. The Feider ride on mower comes with electric start as standard.
I would not expect an engine of this size to be in this type of budget ride on mower, it really does offer excellent value for money. I have owned similar small commercial machines and the engines are a similar size.
Cutting
Feider has certainly created a machine that helps you manage varying grass conditions. The machine has three different cutting modes, the main one being rear collection, mulching and rear discharge. The Feider ride on mower has a 76 cm cutting width which is approximately 30 inches. This machine will fit through most average-sized garden gates.
With six different cutting heights ranging from 20 to 90 mm, the Feider FRT-7550M Ride-On Lawnmower enables you to cut grass in almost any condition. Just a word of warning; I see far too many people trying to shave their lawn, rather than cutting it neatly and evenly. The majority of lawns aren’t particularly even, so when you are shaving a lawn it creates scalping which is very damaging. You’re far better off to cut your lawn higher and more regularly, especially if you want to keep the lawn looking green and healthy.
The mulching feature is a very useful option, there are times when it’s good to pick up the grass clippings and leaves, especially in the autumn. Mulching can be a good option in the summer months as it helps to keep your lawn looking green and healthy. The mulched grass acts rather like a green manure which feeds the lawn and helps to keep it healthy.
Grass collector
One of the most important features on a ride on mower is the fact that you can empty the grass collector from the operator’s seat. Some manufacturers produce ride-on mowers that have two or three bags to empty on the rear of the machine. To me, this is totally unnecessary as it entails removing yourself from the machine every time the collector is full. With the Feider ride on mower, everything can be operated from the driver’s seat!
Gearbox
Powered with a six-speed gearbox, the Feider FRT-7550M Ride-On Lawnmower has five forward and one reverse gear. This is a good range of gears for a machine of this size. However, it appears that Feider does not make a hydrostatic drive machine that offers variable speed. I appreciate that this is a budget mower and there are trying to keep the price low, which is good. The majority of ride-on mowers sold today come with hydrostatic transmission. I personally wouldn’t buy a machine without hydrostatic transmission; a gearbox is so cumbersome compared with the modern hydrostatic transmissions available today.
The Feider FRT-7550M Ride-On Lawnmower offers great value for money. It also has excellent reviews which are very important and gives peace of mind. The only downside of the Feider mower is that it doesn’t offer hydrostatic transmission, maybe this is something that will come out in the future.
This is the most powerful budget Lawnmower that I have come across, 15 hp is a good-sized engine on a machine of this size.
Feider offers two years peace of mind warranty on this ride on mower.
Today we are looking at the Mountfield T38H-MC Lawn Tractor, this machine is currently on special offer. Yesterday we looked at the smaller compact Mountfield 827M Compact Lawn Rider, which is a great machine for gardens with obstacles. The Mountfield T38H currently has a discount of £500 and is available for just £1999, so a great saving.
There are all sorts of ride-on mowers on the market, in fact, we are actually spoilt for choice. However, this can make choosing a lawnmower more difficult. Over the coming months as we move towards the spring, (I know it’s early yet, but spring soon arrives) I want to show you the various options available.
So, let’s look at the Mountfield T38H-MC Lawn Tractor and some of its features and benefits.
Features
Powerful purpose-built Mountfield engine.
11 hp overhead valve engine.
Generous cutting width.
Electric clutch engagement.
Easy clean deck.
Mulching feature.
Large capacity collector.
Empty collector from operator’s seat.
Hydrostatic drive.

Mountfield T38H-MC Lawn Tractor
The Mountfield brand has been around for almost 50 years. Mountfield started production back in 1962. I can remember as a child Mountfield and Hayter rotary mowers being extremely popular. In fact, virtually every petrol roller rotary mower was either a Mountfield or a Hayter mower. I still see many of the old, early Mountfield mowers still going strong today. I always think it is good to purchase a brand that is well known and has good parts and service backup.
The Mountfield T38H-MC Lawn Tractor is a 98 cm cut (approximately 3 feet) which comes with hydrostatic transmission, a powerful petrol engine and large collector.
Hydrostatic Drive
The Mountfield lawn tractor has a hydrostatic drive system which gives you instant variable speed forward and reverse, there is no clutch or gearbox to contend with. Most ride-on mowers today are powered by a hydrostatic drive, there are a few gearbox models still available. However, although hydrostatic drive mowers are slightly dearer, they are definitely worth the extra money for the extra flexibility that a hydrostatic drive machine brings.
Traditionally ride-on lawnmowers had a gearbox and clutch, but thankfully with hydrostatic drives, cutting grass has got much easier! The hydrostatic drive consists of a hydraulic pump and a hydraulic motor. This enables the machine to be able to move at variable speeds in forward and reverse just through using one-foot pedal, there is no clutch or gearbox.
Hydrostatic drive is so much easier than the traditional gearbox, if your grass is long, you can instantly slow down. If it’s short you can speed up instantly, no gear changing! It’s also great for manoeuvring around obstacles, flower borders and trees et cetera.
Engine
Mountfield has its own engines to power most of their machines. The Mountfield T38H-MC Lawn Tractor is powered by a Mountfield 4 stroke overhead valve petrol engine. This is a 432 cc engine that develops 11.2 hp at 2800 rpm. It also comes with electric start so there is absolutely no effort to start this machine. The 6 L fuel tank will allow you to cover lots of grass in one fill-up.
Cutting Deck
Blade engagement is electronic, so you simply just flick a switch and the cutting deck is engaged. Just a word of warning, always engage your cutting deck at low revs as to prolong clutch life. Failure to do so shortens the clutch life. If you think of it like this, you wouldn’t run your car flat-out and then engage the clutch, it’s the same thing!
The seven-position variable cutting height lever gives you cutting heights from 25 mm to 80 mm. Spring-assisted height control makes changing the height straightforward and effortless. I always prefer to cut grass longer rather than shorter, especially in dry weather as this helps to keep the lawn healthy. I see far too many people cutting their lawn far too short which is the perfect way to wreck a good lawn. The 80 mm maximum height of cut is ideal if the lawn has become long, in this way the longer grass can be cut effortlessly.
Grass Collector
The machine features a large grass collector that can be emptied from the driver’s seat. To me, this is a must, I see no point in having a ride on mower where you must leave the seat to empty their collector. Some manufacturers offer a bagging system that has two or three bags on the back to manually empty, in most cases I would say that this is a pointless idea. Mountfield has designed a neat ride on machine where the grass clippings can be emptied from the operator’s seat.
The grass collector has an alarm to warn you when the grass box is full. In this way the alarm avoids any blockages to the machine, I think we’ve all spent unnecessary time unblocking grass collector’s that take up valuable time!
More Features
A heavy-duty bumper is fitted to the Mountfield T38H-MC Lawn Tractor that protects the front from any accidental impact. Another very useful feature is the deck washout port that helps to keep the cutting deck clean and efficient. Simply attach your garden hose to the deck, engage the cutting deck for a few minutes and you have a nice clean cutting deck!
To Conclude
Mountfield is a well-known brand who have great knowledge in the manufacturer of lawnmowers. The Mountfield T38H-MC Lawn Tractor offers excellent value for money for a machine of this size. With the hydrostatic transmission and the efficient collection system, you quickly cover large areas of lawn. The machine comes with a three-year peace of mind warranty.
Today we are looking at the Racing 62PR Ride-On Mower, this is our cheapest ride on at £999! In other words, you get a lot of mower for your money!
As you know, I always like to buy the best machinery that I can afford, however, I know full well that we all have budgets. The Racing 62PR Ride-On Mower is a budget machine, which offers value for money. The great thing is that the customer reviews average 4.4/5 which is very good indeed.
So let’s take a look at the Racing 62PR Ride-On Mower. This is a very compact machine that has a 61 cm (approximately 25 inch) width cut, which makes it a highly compact machine in a smaller garden. Often with ride-on mowers, gateways and pathways can cause access problems, however, the Racing mower should be capable of going into most places.
Engine
A 196 cc 6.5 hp four stroke overhead valve engine powers the Racing 62PR Ride-On Mower. The electric start helps to make life easy and the fuel-efficient engine keeps fuel costs to a minimum. As with all engines make sure and follow the manufacturer’s instructions, keep the oil clean and change at the period stated in the manual. It’s far better to keep the oil clean and to wear an engine out.
Variable Cutting Height
The Racing mower has a five-step height adjustment, the heights range from 30 – 70 mm, with this height range you have a cutting height for all seasons. One thing that I would recommend is to cut your lawn regularly. I see far too many people leaving the grass to grow far too long and then cutting the lawn too short.
In an ideal world, you only want to take a maximum of one-third of your grass at one time. So in other words, take no more than 33% of grass height of your lawn. This helps to keep your lawn looking healthy and helps keep your lawn looking good all year round. Within reason, the more regularly you can cut your lawn, the better.
Generous Grass Collector
Something that’s always an important factor is that the Racing 62PR Ride-On Mower has a generous 150 L collection bag. This is always an important feature on any mower, the larger the bag, the less time we lose when emptying the bag. Emptying the bag can be carried out from the operator’s seat.
Steel Deck
The 61 cm cutting deck is made from durable steel that should give long life. It’s always good to keep your deck clean for optimum cutting and collection efficiency. At the end of the season, it is not a bad practice to paint or spray your cutting deck with oil to preserve it.
Transmission
The majority of ride-on mowers today come with hydrostatic transmission, this type of transmission gives instant forward and reverse speeds. The hydrostatic transmission also gives you variable speeds, there is no need for a clutch. Normally you just have one lever for forward or reverse, or 2-foot pedals that offer forward and reverse. It really is the most efficient way to power a ride-on lawnmower. The great thing is if you come to a thick patch of grass you can quickly slow the machine down, no gear changing or patchwork, just instant forward and reverse!
Unfortunately, the Racing 62PR Ride-On Mower does not offer this hydrostatic drive feature. It has a gearbox with four forward and one reverse gear. Once again, we have two remember that this is a budget lawnmower, so we can’t have every single feature. However, the reviews really are excellent for a machine that costs under £1000!
Quick Delivery
Delivery can be the following working day, providing you order before 2 PM on a working day.
There’s also an assembly service available for £100. This is a service that I would probably seriously think about. The manufacturer claims it takes 30 minutes to an hour to assemble yourself.
Features
A very compact ride on mower, ideal for the smaller garden.
There are not many ride-on lawnmowers as cheap as the Racing 62PR Ride-On Mower. For a ride on mower which is under £1000, the reviews are excellent.
This Ride On Mower Comes With A Two-Year Warranty
For me, the biggest downside is the fact that the machine does not have hydrostatic transmission. It would be good if Racing made a hydrostatic version, maybe this will happen in the future.
If you are looking for a budget hydrostatic ride-on lawnmower it may be worth taking a look at our ride on mower category here.
The Feider FAST175P Push Wheeled Garden Vacuum is a French-made budget wheeled Garden vacuum. This garden vacuum is a new machine on the market and is cheaper than its main competitor, the Billy Goat.
At the moment the Feider FAST175P Push Wheeled Garden Vacuum is on special offer for just £399. This is a fantastic £200 saving on the original price.
Feider FAST175P Push Wheeled Garden Vacuum
A wheeled garden vacuum can be a huge help in the garden, especially in the autumn time when all the leaves are falling. The Feider FAST175P Push Wheeled Garden Vacuum offers a good option for saving time in the garden when it comes to clearing leaves and debris.
With a huge appetite for leaves and debris, the Feider FAST175P Push Wheeled Garden Vacuum quickly clears areas of leaves and debris, which quickly transforms your garden. As the leaves enter the vacuum direct by a five-bladed serrated impeller which smashes the leaves into small pieces. This helps to make full use of the collection bag by compacting the leaves which can then be composted and used on the garden the following year.
Composting is something that I do all the time in the garden, to be fair it seems that not many people compost in this day and age. The benefits are huge, especially if your soil is of a clay type composition. Composting can literally transform a garden especially if this process is carried out on a regular basis.
Optional Hose Kit
There is an optional hose kit for the Feider FAST175P Push Wheeled Garden Vacuum. This is something that I would recommend as it enables you to get into places where your vacuum cannot go. For example, flower borders, shrub borders and around buildings is an ideal use for the optional hose kit. Your wheeled vacuum becomes like a giant vacuum cleaner!
Warranty
Feider gives their pushed wheeled vacuum a two-year warranty which gives you that extra confidence when buying.

Today we are going to look at the subject of, how much is an electric leaf blower? This is a question that I am often asked about. I wrote an article a few days ago on, how much is a petrol leaf blower? We will start with our very cheapest electric leaf blower and gradually move up the scale including more expensive electric leaf blowers. We will also be including rechargeable battery leaf blowers which seem to be moving up the ladder in popularity very quickly.
As you know I like to use a decent powered garden and landscaping equipment. I much prefer a machine with an internal combustion engine on, however, I appreciate for some people this just isn’t practical or affordable.
Mains electric or rechargeable battery-powered?
Something that I have always disliked with mains electric equipment is the inconvenience of a power cable. I find the power cable very restrictive and something that always catching up objects like flower pots and shrubs!
I know of so many people who have cut through their electric power cable with electric lawnmowers and hedge cutters. This is not something you want to do with a hedge cutter when you are on a step ladder! However, modern-day power tools offer good protection with power breakers and sensitive trip switches. The other option is to look at our range of rechargeable leaf blowers.
Electric Leaf Blowers
Electric leaf blowers are cheaper to buy than similar battery powered models as the batteries can be expensive on the rechargeable models. Some of the mains electric leaf blower models really do offer quite a bit of blown power. As many of the manufacturers have just placed a cheap powerful electric motor (compared with a two-stroke engine) which gives plenty of blowing power!
I think the biggest issue for me with an electric leaf blower is the trailing power cable, this is where a rechargeable leaf blower could be useful.
Rechargeable Leaf Blowers
A rechargeable leaf blower offers more flexibility than the traditional mains electric leaf blower. However, rechargeable leaf blowers are limited to how long they can run for. The average runtime seems to be around 20 to 30 minutes for a battery-powered leaf blower. There are the more powerful Stihl models which have greater battery life.
It may be worth considering purchasing a spare battery so you have a spare available to keep the workflow going. Just remember that rechargeable batteries can be quite expensive. So you need to weigh up the costs before purchasing.
I haven’t had huge amounts of experience with rechargeable garden tools. However, recently I was working with a gang of tree surgeons and they had several Stihl rechargeable tools and they were very impressed indeed. I must admit they were certainly very quiet indeed. This is something that is worth thinking about if you are in a built-up area or an area where there are noise restrictions.
Handy 2600W Garden Blow & Vac
The Handy 2600w Garden Blow & Vac is our cheapest mains electric leaf blower and vacuum, priced at just £40. It comes with a powerful 2600 W electric motor and has three function’s, it blows, it shreds, and it collects! The leaf shredding is 10:1 which is pretty good.
The Handy 2600w Garden Blow & Vac comes with a 35 L collection bag, 6 m of electric cable and a shoulder strap. This leaf blower is very light at just 4.5 kg.
Moving up the scale to our second cheapest leaf blowers is the Cobra BV2600 Electric Powered Blower Vacuum, priced at just £45.99. Once again this is a very cheap price for this particular leaf blower.
The Cobra BV2600 Electric Powered Blower Vacuum he is powered by a 2600 W electric motor, which gives plenty of blowing power. It has the feature of mulching, which therefore means more vacuuming and less emptying. The leaf blower has a large 45 L collection bag. It’s very easy to change from blowing mode to vacuum mode.
Flymo Garden Vac 2700 Garden Leaf Vacuum and Blower
We are now moving up the scale to the popular Flymo Garden Vac 2700 Garden Leaf Vacuum and Blower. This is not a leaf blower that I have used, however, I know several people who use them, and they are popular for the smaller garden where a petrol model isn’t required. This leaf blower sells for £74.99
This Flymo leaf blower has a slightly larger 2700 W electric motor, which is slightly more than our two previous models. This model can easily be changed from blower mode to vacuum mode. It has a generous collection bag at 40 L and the maximum blowing speed is 212 km an hour.
The Flymo Garden Vac 2700 Garden Leaf Vacuum and Blower is lightweight, weighing just 5.1 kg. It comes with the manufacturers one year warranty.
Now we are going upmarket considerably with the Stihl BGE71 Electric Hand Held Garden Blower, which sells for £99.99. Stihl have been making machinery for the garden, landscaping and forestry industry since 1926. They are probably the market leaders for professionals in the UK and maybe the world, especially when it comes to, chainsaws, hedge cutters, strimmers and blowers.
Although the Stihl BGE71 Electric Hand Held Garden Blower it is more expensive than our previous models it is not actually so powerful. However, you can buy knowing that you have a quality product that will give you many hours of service.
The Stihl BGE71 Electric Hand Held Garden Blower it is a very lightweight leaf blower, weighing in at just 3 kg, it is lighter than our three previous leaf blowers. It is powered by a 1100 watt mains electric motor.
There is an optional vacuum attachment that can be purchased if required. As I have mentioned in previous posts, I don’t normally use the vacuuming feature as I find it much quicker to blow and then collect the leaves and debris by hand. The other alternative for collecting leaves is with a wheeled vacuum or a rotary mower with a collector on. Obviously, you cannot pick up leaves with a rotary lawnmower on gravel driveways, or where there are stones and rocks etc.
It runs off a 24 V rechargeable battery which gives a 20 minute blowing time. It may be worth thinking about purchasing a second battery for extra time as charging takes approximately two hours. There is actually an eco-mode which will give your battery a few more minutes, in fact up to 65 minutes!
Rechargeable garden equipment is becoming very popular at the moment. Cobra also makes a battery strimmer and hedge cutter in their range of equipment.
The weight of this leaf blowers is just 1.7 kg, which is very light indeed. It comes with the manufacturers two-year warranty which includes the battery and charger.
Now we are moving right up the ladder to the Stihl BGA 85 Cordless Leaf-Blower. This is almost in another category as it is a quality product that will give you long service. This leaf blower does not come with a battery, however, if you have other Stihl rechargeable equipment, the batteries are compatible. Long-term, this makes the Stihl tools cheaper by just having one charging unit and a few batteries, depending on how much you’re using the machine.
Please note that some battery machinery can be very underpowered, the Stihl BGA 85 Cordless Leaf-Blower certainly has plenty of power. It is powered by a choice of lightweight and long-lasting 36v lithium-ion batteries developing an impressive 4 or 6Ah.
This Stihl leaf blower has a variable speed airflow which is ideal when you’re in confined spaces. It comes with the manufacturers two-year warranty.
I’m often asked the question, “how much is a petrol leaf blower”. People are often pleasantly surprised when I tell them how cheap you can buy a petrol leaf blower for!
Our Cheapest Leaf Blower
Our cheapest blower is currently the Parker petrol leaf blower, this leaf blower, mulcher and vacuum, it sells for just £79.99, it has recently been reduced by £10. It actually amazes me how cheap they can make this petrol leaf blower for.
I would always recommend buying the best machine that you can afford, but sometimes we don’t have a choice to buy the best. A few years ago I purchased an orbital sander for some do-it-yourself work, I’m not really a do-it-yourself person, or certainly not in the home! However, we were re-decorating the house from top to bottom and to be fair this orbital sander done the job very well indeed and I have no complaints.
I think because I work in the landscape industry and professionally, I always like to try and have the best machine in a particular category. The Parker blower will probably do the job, but you also stand a chance of having a few problems in my opinion, it’s a risk you take.
I did read an article of a contractor buying a Parker blower and apparently it served him well, especially, taking the cost into consideration.
Our second cheapest petrol leaf blowers is the Chipperfield PRO EBV260 Petrol Blower-Vac which sells for £99.95, which again is an amazing price for a petrol leaf blower.
I believe this is a fairly new petrol leaf blower to the market, however, looking at the reviews, they appear to be very positive.
The Chipperfield PRO EBV260 Petrol Blower-Vac is powered by a 25.4cc air-cooled two-stroke engine, which develops 0.9 hp. With an at a glance 0.65 L transparent fuel tank, you can easily see how much fuel is left in the tank.
It’s always good to use a lightweight and comfortable blower; the Chipperfield Pro petrol leaf blower weighs just 6.5 kg. It comes complete with a adjustable rubber grip shoulder strap that takes the weight off your arms and makes operating much easier.
Airflow is excellent on the Chipperfield leaf blower which has a tapered nozzle which helps to increase the airflow, by forcing the airflow into one place. It also has rubber mounts which protect it when the leaf blowers is placed on the ground with the engine running.
Vacuum mode
This petrol blower vac can be used as a vacuum, it comes with a generous 30 L collection bag. Allegedly, the manufacturer claims that it can reduce the size of the waste by 80%. I guess this depends on how dry the material is as this will make a huge difference in efficiency. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts I always find it much quicker to use these leaf blowers as blowers rather than vacuums. To me, it is far quicker to blow your debris into a heap and then collect it manually.

Would I Buy One Of The Above Leaf Blowers?
So would I buy one of the above leaf blowers? This is a difficult question for me as I have generally used professional equipment and I like to use a quality product that will last me a long time.
Unfortunately, over the years I have seen people by terrible products for the garden which I know will not last for a long time. I also see people buying products that are not right for the garden and just makes the job very difficult indeed.
As with every purchase we make, budgeting and the cost is always of prime importance. I’ve always tried to go for the best machine that I can afford and also buy a machine which will give me many years of service and that has a good ready available parts backup.
When buying a budget machine I would always look at the reviews and the warranty. I know of many people who have brought budget machines and they have given several years of good service. It really comes down to how many hours you are going to use a machine for.
Going Upmarket
If you want to go upmarket, I can definitely recommend you something that will last and that is the STIHL BG 86 C-E Handheld Petrol Leaf Blower. I have owned this particular blower and used many of these leaf blowers over the years. I know of many contractors who use this particular Stihl leaf blower.
The STIHL BG 86 C-E Handheld Petrol Leaf Blower sells for £319, which is also much more expensive than our cheapest petrol leaf blower. However, I know that this leaflet I will give you many hours and years of trouble-free leaf blowing!
If you’re looking for a petrol leaf blower with a collection bag then another good choice is the STIHL SH 86-CE Vacuum Shredder. This petrol leaf blower sells for £369 which once again I appreciate is much more than our cheapest petrol leaf blower, vacuum.
Today we are looking at a few special offers, starting with A cordless Stihl hedge cutter for under £100. As I’m sure you’re aware Stihl make quality garden products, they have been specialists in chainsaws, forestry machines and garden equipment for many years. The new
I have personally used Stihl products for over 30 years and I am still using their products today and I will carry on doing so!
I must admit that I’m not a great fan of electric or battery-operated tools, I much prefer something with an internal combustion engine on. However, the other day I was working with a group of tree surgeons and I noticed that they were using several battery-operated tools. I kind of made a joke about them, however, they were saying how good the range of Stihl battery tools are.
Although this team of tree surgeons, obviously still have their larger petrol chainsaws, they were using a battery-powered pole saw and hedge cutter. A battery-powered top handle saw that is generally used for climbing, this particular tree surgeon was really praising these new battery tools up.
I must admit when I saw these tools in action, I was pleasantly surprised, although, it is still not quite the same as having an engine on a machine. However, that’s just my personal take and I have heard very good things about these battery tools. They are especially useful if you are in a residential area and there are noise restrictions.
So, Let’s Have A Look At The Cordless Stihl Hedge Cutter For Under £100
The Stihl HSA 45 Cordless Hedge Trimmer is lightweight and very well balanced. It has a double-sided cutting blade, this is something I would always recommend as for efficient cutting it’s good to be cutting on your up-and-down strokes. There are a few single-bladed hedge cutters around, however, to me these single-bladed hedge cutters are wasting energy and time. A double bladed hedge cutter makes use of every downward and upward movement.
Battery
The Stihl HSA 45 Cordless Hedge Trimmer it is powered by a 18 V lithium battery, which gives around 40 minutes cutting time. Please be aware that battery time can vary considerably depending on how hard the hedge cutter is working. The Stihl HSA 45 Cordless Hedge Trimmer comes complete with its own charging unit. It may be well worth considering looking at a second battery to backup your hedge cutter.
There is also a battery level indicator that warns you when the battery is becoming low. This could be a time when you recharge and start clearing up your hedge cuttings, while your hedge trimmer is recharging.
Extremely Quiet
I must admit where I was working the other day, there were four tree surgeons working using a range of Stihl power tools. It did seem amazingly quiet as I’m used to hearing a two-stroke engine running, especially when there are several men working. The only noise I could hear in the distance was the diesel chipper running!
The Stihl HSA 45 Cordless Hedge Trimmer has a “quiet award” making it one of the quietest tools on the market. This is ideal for working in urban areas or areas where there is a noise restriction.
Lightweight
Traditionally hedge cutters can be quite heavy, I have been used two using a Stihl two-stroke petrol engine 30 inch hedge cutter. It’s a great tool, however, they can be quite heavy on the arms and shoulders, I never seem to quite get used to the weight of a petrol hedge cutter!
The Stihl HSA 45 Cordless Hedge Trimmer weighs just 2.3 kg, which is very light indeed. The vibration is also minimal that causes considerable less operator fatigue. For safety, there is a lock function that stops the hedge cutter accidentally starting. There is also a key to turn off the machine totally when not in use.
Storage
For those of us who have a range of garden tools, it’s always good to look after them and keep your garden storage tidy and organised. The Stihl HSA 45 Cordless Hedge Trimmer can be mounted to a wall when not in use, therefore taking up minimal space.
Warranty
Stihl offers a two-year warranty on the Stihl HSA 45 Cordless Hedge Trimmer, which is great. I know that Stihl products are very good, and they obviously have great faith in their products to offer a two-year warranty.
Most of us are probably not thinking about purchasing a new lawnmower this time of year. However, sometimes as the grass cutting season draws to an end, it’s a good time to purchase a new lawnmower. Incidentally, there are many times that I’m cutting grass right up till Christmas Eve, so the grass cutting season may not be over yet!
This week’s special offer is a petrol leaf blower for under £90, the Parker petrol leaf blower is the cheapest petrol blower that I have actually come across! In fact, I don’t know how they can produce something like this quite so cheaply. I’ve written an article about the Parker petrol leaf blower, and although it is excellent value for money, it may not be the longest lasting product. However looking at the reviews, they look quite good, and as one contractor mentioned that he could actually afford a professional blower, so he purchased the Parker leaf blower which enabled him to purchase a professional blower, later on, apparently it served him well.
You can find out more about the Parker leaf blower here, and if you are interested in buying, please click here.
